The Gospel

What makes a Christian is their belief in the Gospel. Churches are gatherings of Christians who believe the Gospel.  And so, the first step in connecting with RHC, is to know, and believe this Gospel.
‘Gospel’ means ‘good news’, and specifically it’s the ‘good news’ of what God has done through Jesus Christ, His Son. We can summarise the message of the Gospel with these words: God, Man, Christ and Response.

  1. GOD | God is the Creator of everything (Genesis 1:1), and is perfectly holy, perfectly loving and worthy of all worship. Because of His perfect holiness, He cannot tolerate sin, which is rebellion against Him. Sin is both an affront to His character, and detrimental to the sinner. God must punish sin (Romans 2:5-8).

  2. MAN | We are made in God’s image and are therefore accountable to God as such. We are sinners by nature (Romans 3:23). From birth, all people are alienated from God, hostile to God, and subject to the wrath of God (Ephesians 2:1-3). God would be completely just if he judged us all for our sin.

  3. CHRIST | But, in His perfect love, God sent His Son Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man to earth. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross to bear God’s wrath in the place of all who would believe in him, and rose from the grave, defeating sin and death, in order to give his people eternal life (Titus 2:11-14)

  4. RESPONSE | We must each personally respond to this good news. God calls everyone, everywhere to repent of their sins and trust in what Christ has done on their behalf in order to be saved from sin and reconciled to God (Mark 1:15).

Those who have responded to Christ in faith are adopted into God’s family as His children, loved by the Father, eternally safe because of the Son and empowered by the Holy Spirit. This is the Gospel!
