Hope in Action Forum: Welcome in an Age of Worry

  • Big Picture Theatre - Capital Tower, level 9 (168 Robinson Rd). (map)

If daily life in today's society brings you at least a little bit of concern, anxiety or worry, you’re not alone. Stress levels in Singapore are statistically higher than the global average, with the cost of living crisis a common concern across every generation.

So what happens when we are fraught with worry? How do we respond? Human nature typically leads us into a default mode of survival and preservation. We avoid exerting extra time, energy and money beyond what is necessary, and expend our capacity to ensure the security of ourselves and our families. Often, the needs around us leave us feeling tired and helpless.

But amidst this grind, we see brilliant glimmers of another way - counter-cultural stories of those who have generously committed their limited energy and resources to the wellbeing of others in need - including accounts of those who have opened up their own homes as well as those who have left their comforts to seek out others in isolation.

What can we learn from these examples about living out a spirit of welcome rather than perpetuating a sense of worry?

No matter which stage of life you're in, our guess is that there are both real reasons to worry as well as real opportunities to use your unique circumstances and influence to extend welcome, warmth and love to those who need it. What could that look like for you?

Join us for this year’s Hope in Action Forum to wrestle with these questions and be inspired by radical yet unassuming stories of hospitality.
