What comes to mind when you hear the term 'justice'? Maybe you instinctively think of courtrooms and gavels, or even social justice causes. Or maybe your theology kicks in and you consider how justice is inherent to the person and work of Christ.
Yet we still may be left wondering how to respond when we read a biblical charge such as this: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Mic 6:8)
Do justice - what does that mean for me in my everyday life?
In this year's Hope in Action Forum, we'll be exploring the concept of justice in our world today—not only what it is and why we should care about it, but also how we can find opportunities to do justice in the midst of our everyday circumstances. As we hear stories from a panel of those who have done justice here in Singapore and abroad, we will explore the intersection of justice & creativity, as well as consider how our unique strengths and circumstances (and a little bit of faith!) may be all that we need.
The Hope in Action Forum is an annual event by the RHC Mercy & Justice Ministry which aims to share stories of hope around issues of our day. The past few forums have considered low-wage workers and marginalised foreigners in our midst in Singapore, along with inspiring stories of many who have lived out the command to ‘love kindness’ (or ‘mercy’) towards these groups.
Now that the borders are reopening post-Covid, we will broaden our focus this year to include both local and international perspectives as we camp on the call to ‘do justice’. We’ll hear the voices of those who have spoken out for justice, such as by telling the redemptive story of a survivor of exploitation in the Philippines who was rescued by the International Justice Mission (IJM). In the weeks leading up to the forum, we will be sharing newly published episodes of a groundbreaking podcast called Finding Ruby which shares this story in detail (trailer here). So sign up soon!
