What is the Gospel?
In order to understand the Gospel as "news that brings joy", we need to understand the "bad news" first. We need to know that we have turned away from a good God in rebellion, and that as a result - we are enslaved from sin, we are condemned by God's wrath, and that there is curse on creation. Jesus comes to reverse the effects of all these things. The Gospel is Jesus, who is God the Son, and the Son of God, coming to redeem humanity, and restore the world. The events of the Gospel are the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus. The effects of the Gospel are found in Romans 5:6-11.
