Deeper Longings with Joyce

Hi! My name is Joyce. I attend second congre.

Throughout this Covid season, I’ve found myself looking out the window a lot. I look at the trees of different shades of green in the car park below, and I watch the cars whiz by on the PIE. One day, I watched the dark gray sky pour rain straight down to the ground while the thunder roared. A few hours later, the sky was clear, and it was a beautiful shade of blue. I suddenly thought of Mark 8:23-27.

23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?

Lord, we praise You for You are our Creator. You are the Creator of heaven and earth. Even the wind and sea obey you. With a word, you are able to calm the storm and the waves.

Lord, you see the storms that are thundering in our lives now. The Covid pandemic is not a surprise to you. The isolation and separation are not a surprise to you. The challenges in our daily lives are not a surprise to you. You are sovereign God. You know everything. You know all things. Our lives are in your hands. We ask that you would give us the kind of peace and assurance that Jesus had when He was able to sleep on the boat in the midst of the storm. Help us to cling to you and to trust you. Please anchor us in you and give us faith that pleases you. We take refuge in You.

Lord, You have the power to stop the pandemic. You have the power to heal. We pray that You would stop the spread of Covid 19. Please heal our friends, family members and all those who have contracted the virus. We pray that you would comfort them and their families. We pray against fear, but instead, let them and all of creation find hope and peace in You. Please be our peace.

We thank You for loving us, and we thank You that our lives are in Your hands. We love You. We pray all of this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
